SASDB Teachers’ and Coaches’ Training

The South African Schools Debating Board will host a training day aimed at any educator or coach on the African continent who would like to improve their debate coaching skills.

When: Saturday, 27 February 2021
Time: 10h00-14h00 (SAST)
Cost: Free of charge

The session will cover:

Introduction to debating (rules, format etc.)
How to teach the basic elements of debating (argument construction skills, case construction skills and responsive skills).
How to teach more advanced debate skills.
How to develop a coaching plan for a team.
How to adjudicate debates and provide feedback to teams.

Director’s Note

This morning I received a letter from one of the learners I coach. She asked ,”Mr Mash… I wanted to ask if we’ll ever have debating again?” After I took a deep breathe , I was relieved to respond, “Yes, there is debating again…”

Results from SA Junior Trials

SA Junior Trials was hosted on Discord from 5 January 2021 – 7 January 2021. Six rounds of debating together with several hours in selection meetings culminated in the announcement of the SA Junior team and the SA Junior Development team on Sunday afternoon.

Round 1
This house would lift the veil of incorporation for directors of multi-national corporations for violations of labour laws/workers’ rights by their companies in developing countries.

Results from SA Senior Trials

The South African Schools Debating Board (SASDB) senior coaches hosted SA Senior Trials on 15 January 2021 via Discord. Debaters from all over South Africa joined in on the call to vie for the coveted spots on the SA teams.

Senior Motions from SA Senior Trials

Round 1
This house would suspend all elections in times of severe health crises.

Round 2
This house believes that countries with booming populations should allocate every adult a single trade-able permit to have a child.

Results from SANSDC 2020 (Online)

After much consultation with provinces, the South African National Schools Debating Championship 2020 was hosted online via Discord. The championship took place across many locations in South Africa from 15 December – 20 December.
